Pediped Makeover

My youngest daughter got a beautiful pair of Pedipeds as a baby gift. Well, these are just the greatest baby shoe EVER!  The only problem is they are white and my daughter is a crawler….therefore the toe ended up being dirty and worn looking while the rest of the shoe was in great condition!

(How cute are these shoes?!)

So, needless to say, I searched in vain to find a before picture of her shoes…but could not find any. And I promise, she wears these shoes everywhere! But, use the imagination you have and picture the toe worn down to the underneath leather.

I used my SoSoft Fabric Paints to repaint the toe part. I added some of my Jacquard Pearl Ex powdered pigments to the white paint to color the flowers a tint of shiny pink…and here are my results!

I could have used a whole different color, but white was easiest being that the rest of the shoe is white already.

Cute! And they have worn pretty well with the paint on them. I’m assuming they will wear a tad better when she starts to walk…(which can be any day now, according to her mom! My 3 year old was never a shove-everything-in-her-mouth baby…but man alive! this one sure is and I have to constantly be aware of my floor status!)

DIY Washi Tape for (practically) $0

There’s a few tutorials for homemade washi tape that I’ve come across (here and here, for example)…but even as intrigued as I was, I didn’t feel like going out to buy supplies just to make fancy tape. So, of course, I became creative with what I had on hand!

Need:

Scissors

Double sided tape (yes, I live in cold weather and yes, the tape I use is the leftover from our window sealing kit!)

Tissue Paper, preferably pretty printed

Place the tape- sticky side down- on the tissue paper’s back side. I only have 1 strip pictured, but do as many was you want.

Trim excess paper off.

Roll unto empty spool or cut an empty wrapping paper roll into smaller tubes and roll the tape onto that.

Pretty up any letter, card, package, etc.! Never send/give another boring blank card again! :)

The possibilities are endless! Some cute striped tissue paper would be great. Than you could run the tape along each different color of stripes and create many different colors of tape!

Happy creating! Happy decorating!

Dress Result + Tutorial Link

Lately, I’ve been on a sewing kick. I go through my different craft kicks, and right now it happens to be sewing. And once you start looking for tutorials and patterns, there’s an overwhelming amount to be found/tried! You can just blog-hop all. day. long! (My poor girls..!)

I happened upon the blog Sewing In No Mans Land, and I cannot believe I have never seen it before! It’s absolutely awesome!!

Well, I printed on of her dress patterns, the Summers Eve Dress, and gave it a whirl. It was super easy, but I adjusted it to fit my 3 year old and did a few alterations to the design of it.

I love it and she loves it.

Needless to say, I will be trying many of these patterns while I’m still on my sewing kick! I’ll try posting the results. (I’m terrible about doing progress photos, but i will try!)

DIY Colored Sanding Sugar

While contemplating whether or not to tackle the job of baking and decorating cut-out cookies, I hopped online to get my motivation up and stumbled across this blog (l.o.v.e.!). After browsing through her BEAUTIFUL cookie displays, I decided I could tackle the job! And, why not, while I was at it, color my own decorating sugars.

Add desired amount of sugar into baggie.

Then, add a drop (or depending on richness of color needed, maybe more) of food coloring on to sugar.

Quickly, seal and mix, shake, squish, etc. the sugar to evenly coat the coloring.

Open baggie and allow sugar to “dry” for about 5 minutes, avoiding clumping.

Also, I wanted my blue to be a little lighter, so I tried adding more sugar once the color was dry (duh)

and ended up just getting a mix of blue and white crystals.

My mess… ;)

Store in baggies, salt/pepper shakers, used baby food jars (with holes in top)…or whatever you come up with!

My Brilliant Idea = Fail!

I thought..”Oh perfect! I can make ‘dusting powder’ using the same technique with powdered sugar!”

Ha ha! It was a major no-go…oops! No colored dusting powder here!

I baked the cut-outs (which btw, I have absolutely no shapes! Well, Halloween ones!) using THIS recipe.

Decorated with my neat colors and a little help from K…(and no, I do not profess to be a Champion cookie decorator. You’d think I’d have the patience, since it’s a pastime of ours, but nope- after the first one I am wishing I was finished!) And yes, one pan was ‘forgotten’ a little too long in the oven! :P

**In hind site, I should have used a little coarser sugar because the fine sugar gets a little swallowed up by the frosting. I went with what I had on hand, but in the following picture, I picked up some coarse sugar and tried it. Have yet to decorate with it, but I think it will show up a little better.
